The Sandwich Corner
[2023] An app for a sandwich delivery service
Ux Design - Ux Research
The Need

The Sandwich Corner, a small, family-owned fast food chain in London, serves quality sandwiches made of fresh ingredients. With the London food delivery market being highly competitive, the shops must compete with large businesses that provide consistent and reliable ordering experiences. The Sandwich Corner aimed to stand out by offering a flawless ordering process while maintaining its local charm and authenticity.
The goal was to create an ordering app that simplifies the ordering process for customers, attracts new users and improves retention.

The Product

The product is currently in the high-fidelity prototype phase, featuring smooth user flows for ordering a sandwich and tracking the order. It includes animations and placeholders with real images and text. The latest usability study confirmed that the app effectively meets user needs, with a faster and more intuitive ordering process than the previous version. The most important pain points have been successfully addressed.
A second design iteration introduced a new modern branding. New components were created to align with the new visual language, forming a cohesive design system based on material design. The product has yet to be developed into a fully working app.

The Process

This project was developed with a UX-first approach, following best product development practices. The first step involved a competitive audit, resulting in a report on the direct and indirect competitors in the area, which helped uncover key market opportunities. Following, target users were identified and represented through personas, detailing their goals, frustrations, user stories, and problem statements. A user journey map and storyboards were created to visualise the ordering experience flow. The value proposition focused on accessibility, reliability, optionality, and speed, with KPIs identified to measure success. After the research phase, wireframes were designed, both on paper and digitally. The first low-fidelity prototype was built in Figma for user testing, which focused on understanding the challenges in option selection, order customisation, and checkout, with a particular emphasis on tracking order status. A usability study was conducted with 5 participants, and their feedback was summarised in an affinity diagram, to identify patterns and insights. The highest-priority insights were used to refine the design for future usability studies. A high-fidelity mock-up and prototype were then created for further research.
